Podcast Debut for Genius of Play Features World-Famous LEGO Sculptor Nathan Sawaya

December 14, 2021 | Have you listened to the first episode of The Genius of Play’s new podcast, “Once Upon a Playtime”? Dedicated to teaching grown-ups and kids about the importance of having fun, the podcast premiered last Wednesday and tells the story of Nathan Sawaya, the celebrated LEGO sculptor.

In this episode, listeners will hear how Sawaya went from lawyer to full-time LEGO artist, how construction toys advance STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) skills, and how playing can increase motivation in children—all told in a story time format that encourages parents to listen with their kids.

“As you listen to Sawaya recount how the creative freedom his parents allowed him as a child helped build his imagination, creativity, talent and, eventually, a new career, you’ll quickly realize this is a podcast like no other,” said Anna Yudina, senior director of marketing initiatives at The Toy Association. “Yes, it makes for the perfect bedtime story for kids but it’s also a reminder to adult listeners that it’s never too late to pursue your childhood dream, and that making room for play in our busy lives can unleash our creativity and lead to something amazing. This first episode really sets the tone for the entire ‘Once Upon a Playtime’ podcast series.”

New episodes will be released every other week. Future guests will include actress Alicia Silverstone and Baked By Melissa co-founder & CEO Melissa Ben-ishay, with many more exciting guests to be announced in the coming weeks.

"Once Upon a Playtime"is a production of The Genius of Play made in partnership with FRQNCY Media. The podcast was made possible by a generous grant from The Toy Foundation.
