The Toy Association Statement on Lead
Working alongside medical experts and government officials, The Toy Association helped establish the first federal standards for lead in children’s products more than 40 years ago.
Current standards are 90 ppm (parts per million) for paint and 100 ppm for substrates – and are among the strictest in the world. Because the limits for lead in toys are so low they can only be measured using sophisticated laboratory equipment and testing.
The Toy Association and its members are serious about their responsibility to keep children safe and are committed to ensuring the safety of toys. As new, innovative products continue to emerge, we work with government, medical and child development experts, and consumer representatives to ensure that safety standards continue to be protective of children at play.
This statement was reaffirmed by The Toy Association in October 2025.
